Oikocredit commits to Microcredit Summit Campaign
Part of Oikocredit’s approach is maintaining a balance between financial, social and environmental impacts. As part of Oikocredit’s management of social performance, Oikocredit has signed-on as the Microcredit Summit Campaign’s latest commitment member. The Microcredit Summit Campaign is a microfinance industry initiative which aims to unite like-minded organizations in supporting clients to lift themselves out of poverty.
The commitment involves providing support to at least four microfinance partners through training, analysis and adoption of the Progress out of Poverty Index (PPI) tool. Oikocredit encourages its microfinance partners to implement systems to measure outreach, with over 80 microfinance partners applying the tool in 2013. By committing to the campaign, Oikocredit will ensure more microfinance partners receive training on how to use the PPI and better serve their clients.
Oikocredit managing director, David Woods, said committing to the Microcredit Summit was in line with Oikocredit’s social mission. “Measuring and monitoring change in microfinance partners and their clients is an important part of Oikocredit’s social and financial activities,” said Mr Woods.
As part of the commitment, Oikocredit will present the results by the end of 2014.
