Why volunteer groups?

Oikocredit Support Associations are collectives of volunteers whose members are engaged in promoting Oikocredit’s mission. Volunteer associations are part of a long-standing tradition in Oikocredit’s work. In addition to being active volunteers for Oikocredit, Support Associations are members of the Oikocredit International cooperative.

Oikocredit has two Support Associations based in the US – the Western Pennsylvania Support Association and the Oikocredit Northwest Support Association based in Seattle. Click on the regions to learn more about how you can get involved in your local Support Association.

World Fair Trade Day: Celebrating Oikocredit’s partners across the globe

manos 2.jpgMay 12 2017

Fair trade is defined as ‘a movement whose goal is to help producers in developing countries to get a fair price for their products so as to reduce poverty, provide for the ethical treatment of workers and farmers, and promote environmentally sustainable practices.’

Why are we so passionate about celebrating World Fair Trade day at Oikocredit?

The goals of the fair trade movement are in line with Oikocredit’s vision and mission. Oikocredit invests in 91 fair trade organizations across the globe. We are dedicated to supporting these organizations (known as partners) who are striving to carry out this vision of a more just and sustainable world.

In a recent visit to one of our partners in Uruguay, we got a snapshot of the lives the fair trade organization has impacted and the inspiring work they are achieving. You can read all about our partner, Manos del Uruguay, in our latest blog post.
